A Few Good Beers in Taiwan
Despite a lack of variety, I sampled the beers in Taiwan, or at least in Taipei. There is very little available, but I found a few decent beers.

Today is my final full day in Taiwan, which is unfortunately filled with a long workday. I don’t have much to pack, but I decided to get a head start for once (I’m convinced I’ve forgotten and/or lost something because my suitcase has extra space). Tomorrow afternoon I will say 再见 (zàijiàn) to my home …
These are my last few days in Taiwan. I was given a 90-day visa-free stay here, and my time is almost up–I prefer to leave a bit before the 90 days runs out to ensure I don’t overstay my non-visa. It’s been a wonderful almost three months living in Taipei. This city has made things so …
Taipei’s night markets are popular with locals and tourists. They’re crowded, but still the best places to find a wide variety of food.
On my way to find something new for dinner, I encountered yet another protest in Taipei. This is again related to the China-Taiwan cross-straits trade deal. If we count the anti-nuclear protest during my second week here, this would be the fourth the protest I’ve witnessed. Unlike the previous protests, this one seemed less organized, …
Sometimes the signs around cities are simple. Other times they’re confusing. This one at the Lin An Tai Ancestral House (林安泰古厝) near the Expo Park was just obvious. But, hey, you never know; some tourists really do need some basic reminders. I appreciate this sign looking out for my safety and common sense.
Taking a long ride on the public share known as YouBike around Taipei’s Keelung Riverfront Park and enjoying the views of the city.
Paulo Grangeon’s paper pandas for the World Wildlife Fund at the National Theater in Taipei, Taiwan.
A hike up Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain) in Taipei for views of the city and Taipei 101.
Encountering the continuation of the student protests (Sunflower Movement) in Taipei as the protesters marched along the street next to Peace Park.
Students protest and occupy the Legislative Yuan in Taipei, Taiwan. They are protesting President Ma’s executive order for a new trade pact with China.
After my visit to Longshan Temple last Sunday, I wandered around the city. I figured there were other nearby temples and a riverfront park, which I couldn’t seem to find. As I wandered, I came across some sort of parade. I saw the dragon dance and plenty of firecrackers. There were some costumes that made …
My first impressions of Taipei. It’s a familiar experience, but still a bit different than what I’m used to after living in southern China.
