For almost four years I lived a short distance from Macau — the ferry from Shenzhen only took about an hour, which made it a prime destination for a day or two escape from the mainland.
I’m not much for gambling, so I usually wandered the streets in search of interesting foods. Every time I visited the city I stopped at a grocery store near Senado Square — though I could never remember the exact location and usually got lost — and bought a pound of coffee for a fraction of the price I would pay in Shenzhen.
I enjoyed discovering narrow streets and alleys that cars couldn’t drive through. On one of my final trips to Macau I found this gem not far from Senado Square. It was home to a few restaurants and shops. Most importantly, I stumbled upon Dragon Mama Cuisine — a quaint noodle shop with a few unique dishes. I don’t know if it’s still there, but it was well worth stopping in for a meal or snack.
It never occurred to me you could go to Macau so often, living in Shenzhen. Now I’m a little jealous of people who live in SZ just because they can grab such incredible food in Hong Kong AND Macau so easily.
